Hi, Gamecocks! My name is Audra Knight and I’m from Lexington, South Carolina. I’m majoring in Management with a concentration in Human Resources, and minoring in Psychology. Once I graduate in Spring 2021, I plan to attend graduate school to study Higher Education and Student Affairs. One of my favorite parts about UofSC has been the opportunity to be involved in so many different ways. This year will be my third year in Student Government, and I will be leading this year’s Freshman Council. Being involved has helped me find my voice as a student leader and make connections that will last a lifetime. My advice to incoming freshmen is to always be willing to say yes to new things. My journey at UofSC has led me to new experiences, friendships, and memories that I could have never imagined before coming to campus. So much can happen all because of a simple “yes”! Welcome to Columbia, Class of 2023! On behalf of the Gamecock community, we are so happy to have you here!
Hey, y’all! My name is Ayana Scriven and I am from Columbia, SC. I am a Business Economics major with a minor in Public Relations, graduating in May 2020. I chose to attend UofSC because I wanted to study at the distinguished Darla Moore School of Business. This was also an easy choice because I have a parent who graduated from UofSC and grew up a Carolina fan. My favorite memory from my freshman orientation is staying overnight in Patterson Hall and getting to know other incoming students. I have been enjoying meeting new students at this year’s orientation, especially those with similar studies. My favorite moment thus far was meeting a new student interested in studying Economics, which happens to be one of the smallest majors in the business school. My advice to incoming freshmen is to get involved in student organizations and stay connected to your professors. Also, try to avoid consecutive classes on opposite sides of campus and never forget water on game day! We are excited to have you on campus in the fall, Spurs Up!
Hey, I’m Jackie Yuan! I’m a marketing and management major here at UofSC. As a rising senior, I have had a lot of time to reflect on why I chose to attend UofSC and am so grateful for the doors that this university has opened. Being from Massachusetts, I was worried I wouldn’t find my place here at the on campus. However, I’m happy to say that I was wrong and proudly call UofSC "home." I’ve found my forever friends and figured out the career path that best fits me.
Hey y’all! My name is Natalie Hazzard and I am from Boiling Springs, South Carolina. I am majoring in Biology with a minor in Business Administration and Medical Humanities. I look forward to graduating in 2022 and it will be here before I know it. UofSC has always been a place where I could see myself calling home, especially with the fantastic academic services and great city-life right in the middle of campus. My favorite aspect about UofSC is the community that you feel like you are a part of right when you step on campus in the fall of freshman year. After completing my undergraduate degree, I hope to attend the Medical University at UofSC and begin Physician Assistant School. And, if I had to give any advice to incoming freshman, it would be to get involved early and dream big from the beginning. UofSC has given me so many opportunities in my short time here and I cannot wait to see how this university continues to change my life. As always, GO COCKS and welcome home freshmen!
Hey! My name is Steven Lemmons and I am from Raleigh, North Carolina. I am a current graduate student studying Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) here at the University of South Carolina. I graduated from N.C. State University in 2018 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and have really enjoyed my time here in Columbia. Moving from one capital city to another has been a great experience. I decided to continue my education at UofSC because of the prestigious academic reputation, great HESA program, welcoming environment, and diverse city! Some of my favorite parts about being a part of the Gamecock community are the numerous opportunities available to all students and the welcoming atmosphere. I have truly enjoyed attending athletic events, professional conferences, and playing recreational sports at UofSC. Even though I am not currently an undergraduate student, my advice to all incoming freshman is to take a step out of your comfort zone to learn and experience new opportunities. There are countless ways for students to get involved and I challenge all students to take advantage of these opportunities. Welcome home, Class of 2023!
